With today being International Women's Day I have decided to put together a list of some Irish female artists that have not only been flying the flag for women in music, but also creating music that deserves to be listened to.
As well as being a multi-talented band with tight knit harmonies, Mongoose are major supporters of the Repeal movement. They are a band best experienced in the live environment where their energy is downright infectious. You can catch Mongoose live at our Repeal It! gig on March 29th in The Bowery.
A firm favourite here at The OB, Rosa Nutty is an artist that has a knack to creating relatable lyrics and is somebody who I expect to see a lot about in 2017.
A recent discovery for me, Lisa Loughrey's music is full of emotion and great storytelling. It will be interesting to hear how her music will develop in 2017.
A women that despite her young age has been an advocate for women's rights for a few years now. Her music seems to come from a place that is deep inside and we are being let in on the workings of her mind when she performs.
A women not shy in sharing her support of the Repeal movement and an artist we were delighted to have play our first Repeal It! gig in Foam Cafe last year. With new music fast approaching in the form of a brand new EP 'The Things I Should' due out May 19th I can not wait to see what comes next for the Mayo born artist. Her single 'Stitches' was one of my favourite tracks of 2016.
A recent arrival on the scene with a big year in store with upcoming EP 'Halfway', LAOISE has created a lot of noise and rightly so! Her off-centre brand of electro pop has been a hit everywhere it has been heard with her debut single 'You' garnering over 170,000 listens on Spotify. You can catch LAOISE live at our Repeal It! gig on March 29th in The Bowery.
Having just sold out the Sugar Club in Dublin and set to appear on Other Voices on Thursday nights episode, Ailbhe Reddy is a name that is already on the way to achieve great things. The way that she cleverly crafts her songs with bare bone honest lyrics is something that makes her easy to relate to.
A somewhat mysterious and stylish online presence and stellar live performances including Other Voices in Dingle in December, RUTH is a name I have been following for a while now. Her powerful vocals and catchy lyrics set her above a lot of similar acts. You can catch RUTH live at our Repeal It! gig on March 29th in The Bowery.
