Cork band The Lost Gecko are set to release their new EP 'Unphotographable' on the 19th August 2016. To coincide with this release a beautiful new video for song 'C Saw' has also been released, which I am delighted to premiere exclusively on The OB.
Directed by award winning animator Marc Corrigan (Hamsandwich’s Ants, Cat Dowling, I'm From Barcelona), the video is a charming and heartfelt accompaniment to the powerful lyrics. Utilising stop-motion against a green screen, the animations are then imposed over painted backgrounds. It takes the often-used literary motif of the sea to portray the song’s lyrical themes.
'C Saw' has a heartfelt tone about it. The emotional spoken words like poetry over the accompanying music set the scene from the get go. The EP continues with in the same vein with 'Rabbitfoot', this time with the vocals sung that transition into an emotional heartbreaking moment where you can't seem to let go of a lover.
'Rescued By Waves' has a more polished sound with lyrics that draw on nature over constant vibrato strings. The last track on the EP is the title track which feels separate from the rest of the EP with guitar drones that have a hint of U2. This is the strongest track on the EP for me and sounds like it would have the biggest impact as a live track.
