Review: Amano – Skies

This year has been a hectic and accomplished one for Kerry based singer Amano. At the beginning of the year she was named as one of Hot Press' artists to watch for 2015 and soon after Guinness Amplify selected her as one of twenty-two artists to receive studio time, which is where her debut single 'Skies' was born.

At still only 19 years of age Amano has packed a lot of experience into her musical journey having already supported artists such as Soak, Orla Gartland and Mundy. It was at the age of 15 that she took her first solo steps into music by making YouTube videos.

When asked to describe her sound Amano states "I'm quite tentative about defining my sound in relation to a

single genre but this track draws on some of my more mellow influences like Lisa Hannigan and PHOX, taking the intimidating topic of the transience of time and softening it behind a much sweeter sound."

'Skies' is an atmospheric pop ballad that builds and falls in all the right places. This song showcases Amano's lyrical ability with her singing "We've unknowingly been moving on, again, like skies are always changing". With the current export demand of Irish musicians it would be no surprise if Amano was to join the parade along with acts such as Hozier and Gavin James.

Skies' is set for release on April 24th and is available to pre-order on iTunes here.
